Solo was no more than a quiet rural village, 10 km east of Kartasura, the capital city of Mataram Kingdom. Pakubuwana II who became King of Mataram supported the Chinese against the Dutch. Then, Pakubuwono II looked for a more suitable place to rebuild his kingdom. In 1745, the Kingdom was moved to the city of Surakarta (Sala/Solo), which is located on the Bengawan Solo river banks.
February 18th, 1745 is officially considered as the day of the founding of the city of Solo . It is said that the place he chose to become the new palace is situated in a small lake. Historian’s "chronicle" or official court records still mention that the lake was drained by the support myth of the southern sea queens, Nyi Roro Kidul.
